CertainTeed Kitchen Remodeling: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably got a CertainTeed kitchen component that’s failed or is failing, and you want to know what it’ll cost to make it right in Sacramento. A full kitchen remodel using CertainTeed-compatible materials runs $14,000 to $45,000 in this market, depending on scope, cabinet count, and whether we’re replacing substrate or just finish surfaces. Most failures we see aren’t the CertainTeed material itself. They’re what’s behind it: water intrusion at the sink base, movement in the floor, or a previous install that skipped a step. We stock CertainTeed-compatible kitchen materials on the truck for common repairs, and we’ll tell you in the first ten minutes whether you need a part swap or a full gut.

Here’s how homeowners usually find us. The cabinet face laminate near the dishwasher is peeling. The bathroom vanity toe-kick has swelled from repeated steam exposure. Or the kitchen backsplash grout keeps cracking because the wall behind it flexes every time the kids run through. The CertainTeed product did its job. The installation didn’t.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

CertainTeed is better known in Sacramento for exterior products: siding, trim, roofing, and decking. When it shows up in a kitchen, it’s usually CertainTeed’s wallboard and backer board lines underneath the finished surfaces. We’re talking about CertainTeed GlasRoc and CertainTeed gypsum panels used as tile backer, countertop substrate, and moisture-resistant drywall behind sinks and dishwashers. The compatibility gotcha is this: CertainTeed backer board is spec’d at specific thicknesses, and if the original installer used a thinner panel than the tile manufacturer called for, the tile will eventually crack at the seam. No amount of grout repair fixes that. The board underneath has to come out.

Identifying what you have is straightforward. Pull a switch plate or look behind the dishwasher. You’re checking for printed panel markings, edge density, and core color. CertainTeed gypsum board cores look different from generic drywall under a flashlight: denser, with visible fiber facing on the moisture-rated products. We use OEM CertainTeed panels where the wall or counter has to match existing depth. For areas where the existing depth was wrong from day one, we’ll spec a quality equivalent at the correct thickness and put that change in your written scope, not surprise you with it mid-job.

Bradford Remodeling Co Sacramento is an independent contractor. We’re not a CertainTeed dealership, and we don’t claim to be. What we do is install CertainTeed products to spec, the first time, and stand behind that work for a year.

Signs Your CertainTeed Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Grout cracking along the countertop backsplash within two years. In Sacramento’s dry summers and wet winters, homes settle and framing moves. If the backer board behind that tile is too thin or wasn’t screwed off to studs at the right spacing, the tile seam is the first thing to telegraph the movement.
  • Cabinet boxes pulling away from the wall at the top rail. This is usually a fastener problem, not a cabinet problem. CertainTeed wallboard over wood studs needs the right screw length and pattern. Too short, and the cabinet’s leverage will walk it off the wall over time.
  • Soft spots in the sink base floor. Even “water-resistant” CertainTeed gypsum has limits. A slow p-trap leak that never got fixed turns the cabinet deck to mush. The panel is replaceable, but only if you catch it before rot spreads to the subfloor.
  • Dishwasher surround showing dark staining at the seam. Steam from the dishwasher escapes upward. If the surrounding panels weren’t sealed or taped correctly, that moisture is getting behind the cabinet face and into the wall cavity.
  • Countertop laminate delaminating near the faucet deck. Water sits there, silicone fails, and the substrate swells. CertainTeed panels can handle normal kitchen moisture, but standing water at a failed caulk line will delaminate any laminate.

None of these are cosmetic-only problems. Each one is a sign the moisture management or the structural attachment failed before the finish did.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

In Sacramento, here’s what we see:

  • Full kitchen remodel with CertainTeed-compatible materials: $14,000 – $45,000
  • Small kitchen remodel (galley or condo kitchen): $9,000 – $20,000
  • Cabinet installation: $4,000 – $13,000
  • Countertop installation: $2,000 – $6,500
  • Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000

Your range depends on three things: how much substrate has to come out, whether the cabinets themselves are salvageable, and what your countertop material costs. A laminate countertop over correcting a bad backer board job is on the low end. A full kitchen with new cabinets, quartz tops, and structural wall repair is on the high end.

Every price we give in Sacramento is a written price before work starts. It includes parts, labor, haul-away of the failed material, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if any of our work fails within one year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s in writing. You get a signed copy before we touch a wall.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things you can check yourself. Look under the sink with a flashlight. Pull off a loose section of caulk and check what’s behind it. Read the panel markings you can see. That tells you what you have, which is useful whether you call us or not.

What you shouldn’t do is start cutting into walls or pulling cabinet boxes off studs. If there’s any chance the failure involves wiring, plumbing, or gas lines behind the wall, stop. Sacramento building codes have specific requirements for kitchen work near water and electrical. We pull permits when the scope calls for them, and we don’t leave an owner holding an open permit or a failed inspection. If you have a CertainTeed kitchen part that’s failed, call (279) 226-1509. We’ll tell you whether it’s a part swap or a full remodel, and we’ll put the number in writing before you decide anything.
