Abodu Driveway & Pavers: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide

We install and repair Abodu-compatible driveway and paver systems throughout Sacramento, with paver driveway installation typically running $7,000 – $18,000 for a full replacement and concrete driveway work at $4,500 – $12,000 depending on square footage, substrate condition, and paver style. Most Abodu owners we see aren’t looking for a full tear-out at first. They’re looking at a section of pavers that shifted after a wet winter, or a concrete apron that’s spalled along the edges, or a driveway that’s holding water where it never used to. The good news is that most of this can be fixed without replacing the entire run, and we stock the common materials on the truck so a first visit usually gets the scope written and the fix underway.

Bradford Remodeling Co Sacramento is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Abodu, which means we’re free to source the correct paver or concrete match without a brand markup and tell you plainly if an aftermarket equivalent is the smarter spend.

Which Abodu Models This Applies To

A second-story addition that matches the existing roofline

Abodu’s accessory dwelling units and compact homes in the Sacramento market generally ship with one of three driveway setups: a poured concrete slab with a broom finish, a segmented paver apron in a running-bond pattern, or a modular paver grid over a compacted aggregate base. The pavers in the modular grid setup are usually 60mm or 80mm units, which matters because a big-box 40mm paver will sit proud or sink relative to the surrounding units if you try to patch with it. We’ve seen that mismatch more times than we can count.

To identify what you have, look at the exposed edge of any paver or the control joint in the concrete. A 60mm paver shows roughly 2-3/8 inches of depth when you lift one out. An 80mm shows 3-1/8. If you can’t lift one, measure from the top of the paver to the sand line at the driveway edge. Write that number down before you call anyone. It saves a second trip and gets a firm price into your hand faster. For concrete work, the key spec is the slab thickness at the joints. Abodu’s standard spec in California is a 4-inch slab over compacted subgrade, but we see plenty of 3.5-inch pours from installers who cut a corner. A 3.5-inch slab is why you’re seeing corner cracks at the apron.

On OEM versus aftermarket: Abodu doesn’t manufacture pavers. Their modular paver grid systems typically use a major commercial brand (commonly Belgard or a similar BOLIGNY-style commercial unit), and we source from the documented manufacturers we already trust, including Belgard and Unilock, so the color, chamfer, and compressive rating match the original run. For concrete, the match is in the mix design, not a brand name. We’ll match the aggregate size and color pigment from a core sample or clean edge photo.

Signs Your Abodu Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Edge pavers tipping or sinking at the driveway lip. This is nearly always a base-depth failure at the transition where the driveway meets the street or the apron. The original install either skimped on compacted aggregate at the edge or the Sacramento clay subgrade expanded and heaved the outside row. You’ll see a visible lip difference of a half-inch or more within the first two wet seasons.
  • Standing water that wasn’t there before. Sacramento’s clay-heavy soil moves with moisture. When a low spot develops and holds water for more than an hour after rain, the subgrade under that spot is compacting unevenly. Left alone, that low spot becomes a paver that rocks underfoot and eventually a broken corner.
  • Hairline cracks radiating from a single paver corner. This is a stress fracture from an improperly bedded unit. A void in the sand bedding leaves one corner unsupported, and a vehicle tire finishes the job. You’ll see a triangular chip pattern that matches the unsupported corner exactly.
  • White, chalky residue on concrete edges (efflorescence with spalling). Efflorescence alone is cosmetic, but if the surface is flaking along with it, water is wicking through the slab and carrying soluble salts upward. Sacramento’s summer heat then bakes the surface and it delaminates in sheets. It’s a drainage problem, not just a surface problem.
  • Weeds or grass pushing through the paver joints. More than an annoyance, this tells you the joint sand has failed and the pavers are shifting independently rather than as a locked unit. Once the sand is gone, the pavers start to grind against each other at the corners, which accelerates edge chipping.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A finished backyard cottage with a small covered porch

For Sacramento, the realistic installed range for a full paver driveway replacement is $7,000 – $18,000. That covers demolition of the old surface, re-compaction or removal of failed subgrade, new base and bedding, the pavers themselves, edge restraint, joint sand, and cleanup. A concrete driveway replacement runs $5,000 – $14,000, and a simple asphalt repave lands at $3,500 – $9,000. If you’re only replacing a section rather than the full run, a partial paver repair with matching units typically runs $1,500 – $4,500 depending on how much failed base has to be dug out and rebuilt.

Scope Sacramento Price Range
Paver driveway installation (full) $7,000 – $18,000
Concrete driveway installation $4,500 – $12,000
Driveway replacement (any surface) $5,000 – $14,000
Driveway sealing $250 – $700
Partial paver repair (section) $1,500 – $4,500

The spread comes down to three things: how much failed base has to come out, what the paver unit costs per square foot, and whether your driveway’s slope requires additional drainage work. We write all of that in a line-item scope before we start. Every job we complete carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the repair or install fails within one year, we come back and correct it at no charge. You’ll have that in your hand before the crew leaves the site, not in an email three weeks later.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely pull up a single sunken paver, inspect the sand bed, and take the measurements we described above. That’s honest owner-level work and it helps you get an accurate phone quote. You can also clear joint weeds and re-sand minor joints if the base is still solid underneath. What you should not do is rent a compactor and start rebuilding base layers without knowing what your Sacramento subgrade is doing under the surface. Clay soil that hasn’t been properly amended will re-fail within a season, and you’ll have spent a weekend and a couple hundred dollars buying yourself the same problem. Concrete and asphalt repair is a different category entirely. Bad concrete is worse than no concrete, and once it’s poured, it’s not coming up without a jackhammer.

If you’re in Sacramento and want us to look at it, call (279) 226-1509. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician in a marked truck, and you’ll get a written price before any work starts. If the problem turns out to be small enough that you can handle it yourself, we’ll tell you that too. Straight scope, firm price, no surprises after the drywall goes up.
