KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide

We remodel KraftMaid kitchens throughout Sacramento, and the typical full kitchen remodel runs $14,000 to $45,000 depending on cabinet line, layout changes, and countertop selection. Homeowners usually call us after living with the kitchen for 8 to 15 years, when cabinet boxes start pulling away from walls, drawer slides bind, or a sink base has swelled from a slow leak. We stock KraftMaid-compatible hardware, hinges, slides, and touch-up materials on our trucks, which means most repairs happen on the first visit.

  • Warranty: 365-Day Done Right Promise on every completed project, in writing

Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

KraftMaid builds cabinets across several lines, and the part you need depends on which series you have. The Vantage line uses a standard 3/4-inch plywood box with soft-close hinges as original equipment. The Kemper line runs a slightly different hinge plate that won’t take a standard Vantage replacement without an adapter. If you bought before 2010, you may have the older Venicia or Passport series, which used a different door profile and a hinge we sometimes have to special-order.

How to identify yours: open a door and look at the hinge. KraftMaid stamps a series code on the inside of the hinge cup on most models built after 2008. If the stamp is worn off, measure the cup diameter. Vantage and Kemper both run 35-millimeter cups, which is the industry standard, but the screw pattern differs. That’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss, and it’s the first thing we check when we arrive.

OEM hinges and slides come from KraftMaid’s suppliers and carry the full manufacturer warranty. Quality aftermarket equivalents from Blum and Grass often match or exceed the original specs, and they usually cost 20 to 30 percent less. We’ll give you both numbers on the written estimate and let you pick. If the part is structural, a cabinet box or a wall-cabinet side panel, we order OEM. Aftermarket structural panels never fit quite right, and the joint visible under the finish is where Sacramento’s dry summers will show it first.

Signs Your KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Doors that won’t stay closed or sit crooked. The hinge has worn or the hinge plate screws have stripped out of the box. Sacramento’s low humidity in summer dries cabinet wood slightly, which loosens screw holes over time. We repair with a threaded insert, not glue, so it holds.
  • Drawers that drag, stick, or drop on one side. The undermount slide has lost its bearing or the mounting clip snapped. This is the single most common KraftMaid failure we see, usually on drawers carrying pots and pans.
  • Sink base floor that’s soft, dark, or swollen. Water got under the cabinet floor. KraftMaid sink bases are plywood, but repeated exposure breaks down the adhesive layer. We cut out the damaged section, dry-fit a replacement panel, and re-secure it before the cabinet box twists.
  • Door or drawer fronts that pull away from the box. Sun exposure through a Sacramento kitchen window dries the door core and the hinge screws lose purchase. We re-anchor the hinge with a larger thread profile and recalibrate the door so it hangs square.
  • Finish peeling at the bottom of cabinet doors. Dishwasher steam venting. The steam breaks the topcoat bond at the bottom edge of adjacent doors over a few years. We reface or replace the door, and we can re-route the vent so it doesn’t happen again.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

Here’s how pricing breaks down for KraftMaid work in Sacramento:

  • Cabinet refacing: $8,000 – $20,000, depending on door count and finish spec
  • Full KraftMaid kitchen remodel: $14,000 – $45,000, including cabinet installation, countertops, and hardware
  • Cabinet installation only: $4,000 – $13,000 for a full kitchen’s worth of boxes and doors
  • Countertop installation: $2,000 – $6,500, depending on material and edge profile
  • Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500 for a typical kitchen
  • Kitchen island build or replacement: $3,000 – $10,000

Every estimate is a written line-item price. You’ll see the part number, the material cost, the labor, and the timeline. The price on that page is the price you pay. If we find hidden damage mid-job, we stop, show you what we found, and give you a written change order before we proceed. No numbers move at the door. Every completed project carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails within a full year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling. Pull a drawer out and look at the slide. If the clip that holds the drawer to the slide is broken, that’s a ten-minute fix with the right part. You can also tighten loose hinge screws, though if they spin without grabbing, the box wood is stripped and needs a threaded insert, which is our work.

What you should not do yourself: pry a swollen sink base out, cut cabinet panels, or attempt to re-anchor a wall cabinet that’s pulling away from the studs. A loaded wall cabinet that lets go can come down on someone. That’s a structural failure, not a hardware swap, and it needs a professional who will locate the studs, spec the right fastener, and verify the load is handled. Same logic applies to anything involving the box itself. Cabinet carcasses are under load from the day they’re installed, and a bad repair turns a hinge problem into a collapsed run of cabinets.

If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us at (279) 226-1509. We’ll tell you what we think over the phone, and if it’s a simple fix, we’ll tell you exactly which part to buy and how to install it. We’d rather earn the work honestly than take a service call for something you can handle yourself.
