Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide
If you have a Therma-Tru product and your driveway or paver surface is failing around it, we stock Therma-Tru-compatible parts and can typically get the correct piece ordered and installed within a week. Driveway and paver work around doors, thresholds, and entry systems in Sacramento runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed depending on square footage, substrate condition, and drainage work. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a door that suddenly drags, a threshold that’s visibly off-level, or pavers that have sunk an inch or more next to the entry.
We’re Bradford Remodeling Co Sacramento, an independent contractor. We are not affiliated with Therma-Tru, but we work with their door systems and the hardscape that surrounds them every week. Curtis Lane runs our shop, and we’ve built our reputation on getting the scope in writing before a single paver gets pulled.
Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru doesn’t manufacture pavers or driveway material. What they make is the entry door and threshold system that sits on top of that hardscape. The connection point is where most failures happen. When we talk about “Therma-Tru driveway and pavers,” we’re talking about the interface: the door sill, the threshold, the sweep, and the substrate directly beneath them.
Therma-Tru entry systems include the Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, and Smooth-Star lines. Each has a different sill profile and bottom sweep spec. The Classic-Craft Mahogany Collection, for instance, uses a composite adjustable sill that sits higher off the substrate than the Smooth-Star’s standard aluminum sill. If your pavers were cut to fit one sill height and you later swap the door, you’ll have a gap or a bind. Before we order any part, we measure the sill height, check the paver elevation against the interior floor line, and confirm whether the threshold has shifted. That’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: it’s rarely the door part that fails first. It’s the paver settlement underneath it that throws the sill out of level.
For OEM versus aftermarket: we use Therma-Tru OEM sills, sweeps, and thresholds when the door is under manufacturer warranty. If the warranty is expired, a quality aftermarket composite sill or adjustable threshold does the same job at roughly half the parts cost. We’ll tell you which one makes sense for your situation and put that in the written quote.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
Here’s what Sacramento homeowners actually report before they call us:
- The door drags or sticks on one side. This usually means the paver directly under the threshold has settled. The sill is now low on one corner and the door panel binds against it. The fix is re-setting the pavers and re-leveling the sill, not just sanding the door bottom.
- Water pools at the entry after rain. Sacramento’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts hard between wet and dry seasons. Pavers that looked flat in August can heave or sink by February. If water sits against the Therma-Tru sill, the bottom sweep rots or the aluminum corrodes, and you’ll get water inside the wall cavity.
- The bottom sweep is shredded or hanging loose. This is the most common Therma-Tru part we replace. A sweep that’s been dragging across unlevel pavers for a season will tear. The part itself is inexpensive; the reason it failed is the hardscape underneath.
- Visible gaps between the threshold and the pavers. If you can slide a screwdriver blade into the gap, insects and water are getting in too. That gap also means the threshold has lost support and will flex every time someone steps on it, which eventually cracks the sill.
- Pavers next to the door are cracked or tilted toward the house. Cracked pavers at a doorway are a drainage failure in progress. Water runs toward the foundation, not away. This is the point where a paver repair turns into a driveway re-grade.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Sacramento pricing for driveway and paver work around a Therma-Tru entry breaks down like this:
- Paver repair and re-leveling (small area, under 100 sq ft): $700 – $2,500
- Full paver driveway installation: $7,000 – $18,000
- Concrete driveway replacement: $4,500 – $12,000
- Driveway sealing: $250 – $700
- Therma-Tru bottom sweep replacement (part only): $30 – $80
- Therma-Tru adjustable sill or threshold replacement (installed): $250 – $600
The range depends on three things: how much substrate rot or settling we find once the pavers come up, whether drainage needs to be corrected, and which Therma-Tru sill or threshold spec we’re matching. We write every quote before work starts, and the number doesn’t move unless we find something structural and you approve the change in writing. Every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is in writing, on your invoice, before you pay the final draw.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a bottom sweep on a Therma-Tru door is a 20-minute job a homeowner can do with a screwdriver. If your pavers are level and the sill is solid, buy the OEM sweep and swap it yourself. We’ll even tell you the part number if you call.
But if the pavers have settled, if the sill is out of level, or if water has been getting under the threshold, this is not a DIY job. You’re not fixing a part; you’re fixing the substrate under the part. Pulling pavers without checking the base course means the same failure comes back in six months. And if the threshold is structurally compromised, you’re inviting water damage into the wall cavity every time it rains. That’s a repair that costs five times what the early fix would have. The Garrison Standard exists for exactly this reason: straight scope, firm price, no surprises after the drywall goes up. Call (279) 226-1509 and we’ll give you a written number before any work starts.
FAQs

In Sacramento’s climate, a Therma-Tru bottom sweep typically lasts 4 – 7 years, and a sill or threshold lasts 10 – 20 years if it’s sitting on stable, well-drained pavers or concrete. The big variable is sun exposure: west-facing entries take UV damage on the sweep and composite sill components faster than shaded entries. If your entry gets full afternoon sun, expect to replace the sweep every 3 – 4 years. Call (279) 226-1509 and we’ll tell you what your specific door needs.
Yes, if the pavers themselves aren’t cracked and the base course is intact, we can lift, re-level, and re-set them for $700 – $2,500 depending on the area. If the base has washed out or the pavers are cracked through, replacement is the cheaper long-term fix. We’ll tell you which one applies to your driveway before we quote, not after we start digging.
A sweep replacement is done in under an hour. A full sill or threshold replacement, including re-setting the surrounding pavers, takes one to two days. Paver driveway work around the entry is typically a three to five day job depending on drainage corrections. We give you a written timeline with the quote, and we hold to it.
We keep common Therma-Tru sweeps, sills, and adjustable thresholds on the truck for Smooth-Star and Classic-Craft lines. Less common series parts we order direct, which takes three to five business days. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone product lines on larger remodeling scopes. Call (279) 226-1509 with your door model and we’ll check stock while you’re on the phone.
